COLLABORATIVE DIVORCE

     Divorce is a fact of life for many marriages today.  Ending a marriage is often a significant life event.  The litigious nature to "fight it out and win it all" may cause emotional stress, unknown outcomes, financial uncertainty and  strained relationships. 

     Collaborative Divorce is a relatively new approach to divorce.  It is built upon mutual problem solving in an effort to help families have a more peaceful transition to their new way of life.  The collaborative process involves each spouse retaining his/her own collaboratively trained attorney.  The parties pledge in writing to work toward an agreement without going to Court.

     With the aid of as-needed neutral professionals such as financial and mental health specialists, resolving divorce issues takes on a team approach, allowing the parties to maintain respect, protect children and look ahead to both parties' future.  Upon an agreement on all issues put into writing and signed by the parties, the parties can proceed with an uncontested divorce.

     Although a Collaborative Divorce approach may not apply to all divorce situations, it may apply to your situation.

     The Collaborative Process can also be used to resolve separation, custody and post-divorce issues.
